Reverend Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye
Former Governor Joshua Dariye of
Plateau State and Reverend Jolly Nyame of Taraba State will know their fate
today as the Court of Appeal in Abuja will deliver judgment on their appeals.
The former governors had earlier approached the court seeking
to upturn their conviction and subsequent sentences of 14 years imprisonment
each over fraud.
Judgment according to the registrar of the court will
commence at exactly 10:00am today.
It would be recalled that High Court of the Federal Capital
Territory, Gudu, Abuja, presided by Justice Adebukola Banjoko on Tuesday, June
12, 2018, sentenced former governor Joshua Dariye who was a serving senator to
14 years’ imprisonment on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal
appropriation of the state’s funds running to over N2billion.
The ex-governor was convicted on 15 out the 23 counts preferred
against him in July 2007.
Similarly, Jolly Nyame was convicted on a total of 27 out of
the 41 counts preferred against him.
On May 27, 2018, he was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment,
after being convicted of misappropriating N1.64 billion from the state’s
treasury through shoddy stationery contracts which he awarded at the tail of
his eight years administration in 2007.
Shortly after the sentence, the two former governors, in
separate appeals approached the Appellate Court seeking to be discharged of any
wrongdoing.
