Live Updates: of Supplementary Governorship Elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct supplementary elections in the states where the governorship elections and some House of Assembly elections were declared inconclusive. The supplementary elections will be taking place today, Saturday, March 23. The governorship elections were declared inconclusive in six states, namely; Bauchi, Adamawa, Plateau, Sokoto, Benue and Kano states. However, only five of the affected states will be participating in the re-run elections as INEC has postponed the supplementary election in Adamawa state following a court order. Thus, as residents of the concerned areas in the affected states troop out to cast their votes for their candidates, Legit.ng is on ground to give insightful and verified live updates of the elections.

INEC staff already set for the exercise slated to commence at exactly 8am. Also at Makurdi LGA, Polling Unit 011, Ward (Modern Market), INEC officials and security personnels are on ground already.

Updates from Sokoto state: Disagreement among political parties's agents reportedly stalled the electoral process Polling Unit 12, Ward 11 (Sarkin, Adar, Atiku) Voting started at 8am as scheduled. However, disagreement among the agents of the political parties has reportedly stalled the process. Also, the PO says card reader is functioning well. The number of registered voters in the unit is 585.

Updates from Kano state: Conflict erupts in a polling unit in Gaya LGA Around 8.30am, conflict erupts in Ward Gaya Kudu, Polling Unit, agency for mass education. Security agents are, however, trying to control the situation.

However, voting is going on peacefully in PU Gidan Maigari 004 and 005, Ward Gama in Nasarawa LGA.
Some thugs who were trying to disrupt the process have been arrested by the security agents.

Updates from Benue state: Voting continues peacefully Accreditation and voting is going on peacefully in PU 003, Ward Yandev North in Gboko LGA.

Updates from Sokoto state: Accreditation and voting ongoing Kofar Atiku polling unit 009 in Sokoto state, voting ongoing peacefully.
Also, voting started at PU 003 Magajin Rafi B Ward, Sokoto North LGA at 08.27am, a little later than the 8am schedule, the PO says.

Similar situation happens at PU Magajin Gan where there are no INEC officials available.

Updates from Plateau state: Voting ongoing in some polling units Polling Unit: 018 Ward 06 Jenta Plateau Hotel Junction, Jos North LGA The number of registered voters 853. The presiding officer, David Haruna, said voting started at about 8am.

Updates from Kano state: No election in Rimin Gado LGA Supplementary elections are also expected to take place in Rimin Gado LGA ( Attawa, Tammawa, Dika, Gulu, Rimin Gado and Jilli). A report by Premium Times, however, states that people on ground at the affected areas said “no election is going on anywhere because all the ballot papers have been pre-thumb printed." The newspaper also reports that a member of the House of Representatives for Gwale constituency, Garba Disu, arrived the Divisional Police station in Rimin Gado and complained that “all the ballot boxes have been thumb printed. Both the lawmaker and the people we met accused the APC of the “crime”.

Updates from Sokoto state PU 003 Magajin Rafi B Ward, Sokoto North LGA. Voting started 8.27am, a little later than the 8 AM schedule, the PO says. The late start according to the PO was because the card reader malfunctioned. "It's now working after it was fixed," says the PO. The exercise is currently going on in an orderly manner. There are 716 registered voters in this unit and the turnout is huge. Premium Times observes separate lines for males and females queuing to exercise their voting right. Updates from Plateau state: Large turn-out of voters PU 014 Jenta Mangoro Ward 06 Jenta Adamu, Jos North LGA There is huge voters turn out as observed in all four voting points. The polling unit has 2,017 registered voters.
